Alta Ifland
Alta Ifland was born in Romania and emigrated to the United States in 1991. After teaching French for ten years, she left academia and switched from French (her second language) to English (her third language). Ifland is the author of two collections of short stories: Elegy for a Fabulous World (Ninebark Press, 2009)—which was a finalist for the 2010 Northern California Book Award—and Death-in-a-Box (Subito Press, 2011)—which won the 2010 Subito prize in fiction; and two collections of prose poems: Voix de Glace/Voice of Ice (Les Figues Press, 2007)—written in French and translated by herself into English, winner of the 2008 French prize Louis Guillaume—and The Snail’s Song (Spuyten Duyvil, 2011). She has received fellowships in fiction from Wesleyan, MacDowell and Millay.
