Winter/Spring Internship Opportunities

PUBLIC RELATIONS AND MEDIA INTERN

Description:Les Figues Press is currently seeking students with an academic background or interest in art, literature, journalism, communications, and/or public relations to help us promote our mission of creating aesthetic conversations between readers, writers and artists. This part-time, unpaid marketing and public relations internship is ideal for candidates who are looking to combine their interest in the arts with hands-on nonprofit marketing and PR experience. The intern will work directly with Les Figues Press leadership and staff as well as artists, writers, and the media, and will be an important part of the LFP team.

Qualifications: A qualified candidate must be research savvy and possess good email and telephone skills. Basic computer skills are a must; knowledge of Excel is a plus. The qualified intern will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the arts and a serious interest in media relations. Responsibilities will include: media research, database entry, basic pr copy writing and editing, email marketing, press release distribution and event assistance. This position is open to undergraduate or graduate level students. Interns must commit to working in the Les Figues offices at least one day per week, Monday–Friday.

SMALL PRESS PLUS INTERN

Description: Les Figues Press is offering a limited number of winter/spring internships designed to provide qualified applicants with an overview of small press publishing. Small Press Plus interns assist in all aspects of Les Figues operations, including editorial, marketing, development and administrative tasks. These may include publicity projects, special events/readings, copy-editing, developing website content, grant writing, tracking and logging reviews, marketing research, data entry and more. Winter/spring interns may also assist in the upcoming Les Figues projects: the TrenchArt: Surplus Series and a literary series on avant-queer writing at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House. These projects provide specific experience and training in bookmaking and event planning. The Small Press Plus internship is a part-time, unpaid position.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must be enthusiastic about all aspects of publishing, have knowledge of contemporary literature, excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, computer literacy, and undergraduate experience in English or a related field. These positions are open to undergraduate and graduate level students; these positions are particularly well-suited to students pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing. Interns must commit to working in the Les Figues offices at least one day per week, Monday–Friday.
