About The Principle of North Korean Charity:

No State is a state without an idea. If we examine many of today’s visual art practices by and about East Asians – from Ai Wei Wei’s process oriented antics to Yoshitomo Nara’s interactive environments – the general trajectory appears to lack any concern or significant relevance to really existing totalitarian States of exceptions. The Principle of North Korean Charity is a modest attempt to accommodate this larger purview by presenting Kim Jong Il’s art theory in the context of Les Figues Press’ broader ongoing considerations within Not Content.
