Caroline Bergvall
Caroline Bergvall is a writer and cross-disciplinary artist working across media, languages and artforms. French-Norwegian, based in London.
Bergvall is known for her multilingual poetics, her work around new literacies, cultural belonging and accented practices, and for her investment in radicalising writing’s modes of dissemination and access. Projects and research alternate between published poetic pieces and performance-oriented, often sound-driven writing projects. Her books are noted for their combination of performative, visual and literary textualities.
Her work has been commissioned and presented internationally. Most recent projects at: Hammer Museum, LA (w Rodney McMillian); MOMA, NY; Dia Arts Foundation, NY; Tate Modern, London; Museum of Contemporary Arts, Antwerp. Forthcoming: Arnolfini Gallery (Bristol).
Past professional appointments: Arts and Humanities Research Council Fellow in the Creative and Performing Arts at the University of Southampton (2007-2010). Director of the innovative and cross-arts writing program Performance Writing at Dartington College of Arts (1995–2000). Honorary Fellow, Birkbeck College, London (2000–2003). Associate Writer MA Writing, Cardiff University (2002-2005). Co-Chair MFA Writing, Bard College, New York (2004-2007).
